The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) strongly condemns the heinous shootings that occurred in the Cherry Tree Lane, Four Paths community of Clarendon on August 11, 2024. These brutal acts of violence are a stark reminder of the grave threat that crime continues to pose to the safety and well-being of our citizens, as well as the progress being made in our beloved nation.
We urge witnesses to call Crime Stop at 311 now! Your identity will not be exposed, but if your information leads to an arrest and charge of the perpetrators, your courage will be rewarded, and your community will be a safer place.
The PSOJ extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives in this senseless tragedy. We stand in solidarity with the community of Cherry Tree Lane and the wider Jamaican society in our collective grief and outrage.
We have noted the statements issued by both political parties condemning this act of violence, and we urge all leaders, regardless of political affiliation, to unite in the fight against the scourge of crime and violence that is undermining our country’s social and economic development.
The PSOJ remains committed to collaborating with the Government of Jamaica, civil society, and all partners to address the root causes of crime and violence. We recognize that a multi-faceted approach is required, one that includes strengthening our justice system, improving education and employment opportunities, and fostering a culture of respect for life and the rule of law.
In this critical moment, we call on all Jamaicans to reject violence in all its forms and to work together to build a safer and more peaceful Jamaica. The PSOJ is prepared to take an active role in initiatives aimed at reducing crime and violence and will continue to support efforts to create a secure environment for all Jamaicans.
The PSOJ reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the safety and security of our people. We will not stand idly by as crime and violence threaten to derail the progress we have made as a nation. Together, we must act with urgency and determination to reclaim our communities and ensure a brighter future for Jamaica.
